Epidemiological studies have described an increase in the use of anabolic–androgenic
steroids (AAS). Moreover, perhaps more importantly, evidence demonstrates that use
of AAS is associated with psychotropic drug use, such as cocaine. Use of AAS and cocaine
has been associated with cardiovascular complications. However, mechanisms involved
on cardiovascular diseases associated with the use of these drugs, mainly their combined
use, are not totally understood. Therefore, in the present study we investigated the
effect of cocaine and/or testosterone administration for 1 or 10 consecutive days
on baroreflex activity in unanesthetized rats.
