Medial prefrontal cortex endocannabinoid system modulates the baroreflex activity through CB1 receptors

      Background: Local synapses within medial prefrontal cortex (MPFC) modulate the baroreflex. This action is mediated, at least in part, by NMDA receptors present in this area. Cannabinoid CB1 receptor expression is considerably high in MPFC. Also, these receptors can modulate postsynaptic response mediated by glutamatergic NMDA receptors.
