Heart Rate Variability in Pelvic Pain Syndromes

Background: Interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS) and myofascial pelvic pain (MPP) are frequently comorbid disorders. We hypothesize that IC/BPS is associated with aberrant efferent control, while MPP is indicative of abnormal afferent (sensory) processing. Heart Rate Variability (HRV) in these groups was determined as a functional measure of the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS).
